Things to do and see in and around Narbonne:

  • Narbonne Cathedral (Saint-Just) that dates from 1272, is visible from almost anywhere around Narbonne, and includes a magical whispering gallery
  • The Archbishop's Palace (Palais des Archevêques) and its donjon with views over Narbonne
  • The Archaeological Museum (Musée Archéologique) in the town centre
  • The Roman Horreum, a former underground warehouse for grain, wine and oil
  • The Canal de la Robine that runs through the centre of the town
  • Les Halles, a fantastic covered food market that's open every day, with an accompanying open-air market on Thursdays and Sunday mornings
  • The magnificent wine-producing limestone massif known as La Clape
  • The beaches at Narbonne plage, Gruissan and St Pierre La Mer

Golf: there are two 18-hole golf courses nearby, at Béziers and Carcassonne, and a third slightly further away, south of Perpignan. If you're feeling a bit less energetic, there are numerous mini-golf and crazy golf courses in the area too...

Swimming, ice skating and ten-pin bowling: all available at the Espace de LIberté in Narbonne, that also offers a buffet-style restaurant.

Rugby: Narbonne is home to the rugby union team Racing Club de Narbonne Méditerannée (RCNM), that was founded in 1907. They play in orange and black at Narbonne's Parc des Sports et de l'Amitié.
